Peter Alan Larkin
Peter Alan Larkin’s rich and wonderful life came to its end on March 29, 2026. He had recently celebrated his 80th birthday.
Born in Syracuse, N.Y., on Dec. 3, 1945, he was one of five children of the late Edward H. and Eleanor (née Steinbeck) Larkin.
Peter was the founder and owner of Pete’s Major Appliance for several decades. He had recently retired to travel and enjoy the simple joys of life with his partner of more than a decade, Carolyn Riley.
Pete had many passions that filled his days and shaped the way he connected with others. He was an avid cyclist and a longtime member of the Orange County Bicycle Club. Music was another lifelong passion of his; it seemed to follow him wherever he went as much as he followed it. Pete was also a devoted member of Warwick United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, baked his weekly bread, and was a beloved part of the church community. Peter loved the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. He took great joy in sharing this with his children and grandchildren, creating many lasting family memories. He also cared deeply about protecting the environment, and as in all things, put this care into action.
Peter had a lifelong love of sports, especially hockey, and was a devoted fan of the New Jersey Devils. Even with so many passions, he was also known for his classic, well-timed naps when he finally slowed down.
Peter is survived by his beloved partner Carolyn; his seven children, Edward Larkin (Anna), Helen Ross (Steven), Kevin Larkin Angioli, Brian Larkin, Cheryll Meddis, Tina Lopez, and Joseph Seaman; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; his siblings Mickey Larkin, Natalie Calta, and Terry Larkin; as well as many nieces and nephews in a vibrant and ever-growing extended family. He was predeceased by his former wife, Annamary Larkin, and his sister, Christine Cavallini.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, April 10 from 2 - 4 p.m. and 6 - 8 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Avenue, Warwick, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at Warwick United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 11 at 2 p.m. with a repast to follow.
Peter donated quietly and widely to a host of causes that stirred his conscience and values. In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to the Warwick Ecumenical Food Pantry (warwickpantry.com), the Lake George Association (lakegeorgeassociation.org), or Southern Poverty Law Center (splcenter.org).
