You can't wander over to Amazon from the Farmers Market'
To the editor: It was with great sadness we read of the bookstore’s closing. We came to Warwick in 2000 from an area that did not have a nearby independent bookstore and therefore purchased quite a bit from Amazon.com. Convenient, low cost and quick as they were, we quickly learned they didn’t hold a candle to Michael’s Bookstore. Friendly, incredibly helpful and knowledgeable, he has always been more than enthusiastic about special ordering anything he doesn’t have, and it always arrived within a couple days, as fast as Amazon. He probably cost a few dollars more, but mail order could not bring the pleasure of having our children pick out that special Mother’s or Father’s day book to give as a gift. You can’t wander over to Amazon from the Farmers Market and spend a lazy hour leafing through the incredible variety that Michael manages to cram into that tiny space. You can’t sit on the old wooden bench as your kids bring you stories to read to them. I guess there’s nothing more to say now other than to express our thanks to Michael for the warm and professional way he ran the Bookstore, and to wish him the best of luck in whatever endeavor he pursues next.
