What makes Warwick special

The weather was perfect and the day started with the sharp presentation of the colors by the Nicholas P. Lesando, Jr. American Legion Post # 214. We had many young at heart seniors and young in age helpers that made the day go smoothly. Once again, I have to thank Mike Coleman, J. R. Pillmeier and Paul Karas who cooked a perfect meal. Daegele Brothers of Florida supplied the best sweet corn and WVT Communications, with many employee helpers, supplied delicious deserts. Drinks were kept cool with ice supplied by the Warwick Fire Department. DJ John Corcoran kept the day festive with beautiful music. The Warwick Ambulance Corps was on hand to make sure aid was there if needed, while gladly it wasn’t. ShopRite and Price Chopper supplied not only water, charcoal and paper goods, but lots of volunteers who made the day go so well. Other helpers included Republican and Democrat committee people, Warwick FFA, Warwick Valley High School Interact Club, Pine Island recreation kids, UAME youth, many Rotarians, as well as our coffee maker, Kathy Gerstner, and our shuttle golf cart donated by Orange County Golf Cart and driven by Eileen Patterson and her co-pilot Shea. The best part, of course, was that the cost of this event was underwritten by the very generous donations from so many of our service organizations, clubs and veteran’s groups here in the town. A big thank you to Jeff Rosenberg of the Big V family for paying the cost of each ticket and the Pine Island Senior Citizens for a great 50/50 that all goes to defray costs. Many seniors took home prizes donated by Pecks liquor, our senior clubs from Warwick, Florida and Greenwood Lake, Judge DeAngelo and the Warwick Republican Committee. A special thanks to Barbara Devine, Vince Poloniak and Dominick DeGaetano for coordinating this great day. This event was a truly community wide effort to say thank you to our seniors for all they have done to make Warwick special.
