Warwick Valley Chamber supports school vote
To the editor: At its monthly meeting on Nov. 2, the Board of Directors of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce voted to support the school vote affecting the tuitioning of Greenwood Lake high school students to the Warwick Valley High School. The chamber determined this referendum to be in the best interests of students and taxpayers of both districts. This proposal has the very positive ability to save money for both school districts. Warwick Valley gains financially through tuition revenue and keeps enrollment at a level to sustain current program offerings. Greenwood Lake residents save money through lower tuition costs than those at Tuxedo due to state funding formulas. To maintain the strong academic and extra-curricular program offerings at Warwick Valley, student enrollment must remain at or near its present level to earn the adequate state aide. If enrollment drops as projected, there would likely be a reduction in the number of programs or taxes would increase. After careful review of all the information that has been presented on this subject, the Board of Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce strongly approves this referendum and encourages all those eligible to get out and vote on Tuesday, Dec. 12.
