Warwick Partnership supports GWL student transfer
To the editor: The Warwick Partnership for a Quality Community (WPQC) is a Town of Warwick committee comprised of representatives from the Municipal Governments, Planning Boards, School Boards and Chambers of Commerce, inclusive of the Town of Warwick and the three Villages - Florida, Warwick and Greenwood Lake. Our mission statement is “to forge a cooperative and productive relationship between Town and Villages to enable sound land use plans, policies and practices that maintain and preserve that which is best in our communities while providing opportunities for intelligent growth.” We have been following with interest the discussions about tuitioning of Greenwood Lake high school students to the Warwick Valley Central School District. The partnership as a group is firmly in support of bringing these Greenwood Lake students to the Warwick Valley School District. The plan has been well researched and presented to taxpayers in both school districts. Because enrollment has been declining in both school districts, this plan will allow Warwick Valley High School to operate efficiently with the advantage of being able to offer expanded electives. These new courses will pose no additional cost to Warwick taxpayers, due to increased revenue from Greenwood Lake tuition and state aid. We feel it’s a win/win scenario for the students as well as the taxpayers with the added benefit of creating a more inclusive school district - after all Greenwood Lake students reside in the Town of Warwick. Therefore, we strongly encourage voters in both school districts to approve this referendum on Dec. 12. Leonard M. DeBuck, chairman Warwick Partnership for a Quality Community
