Warwick ill-served by Republicans
To the Editor: Let’s look at the facts about politics in the Town of Warwick: Of approximately 20,000 registered voters there are about 7,800 Republicans, 5,800 Democrats and 5,000 nonaffiliated. Yet Republicans hold every elected office and control every rule making board. The Republican Town Board sets the agenda, makes the appointments, establishes the budget and spends the money. They are unanimous on every single vote. No disagreement, no debate. They are a “team”, led by the Supervisor, with the support of certain influential realtors, developers, and the Republican establishment. And in the past six years, housing developments, traffic, and taxes have all increased on their watch. Those are the facts. The Democrats believe Warwick has been ill served by the Republicans and it is time for a change at the top. We endorsed Penny Steyer for supervisor because she is a political independent with the knowledge, experience and integrity Warwick needs. She has concrete plans for reviving business and slowing growth. She has the support of people across political lines because she has pulled back the covers on the problems of over-development, water resources, traffic and crime. She is open-minded and has vowed to not favor special interests. That is what the people of Warwick say they want: Openness, fairness and solutions to the issues being ignored by the current administration. We urge all Warwick voters to elect a supervisor who will take on the tough issues rather than follow the party line. This year let’s vote for independence and an end to one-party rule. Vote for Penny Steyer as town supervisor. Steven J. Carras, Chair Michelle Desveaux, Vice-Chair Warwick Democratic Town Committee
