Visit the Purple Heart Hall of Honor

To the editor: I had the privilege recently of visiting the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor in Vails Gate, as part of my Leadership Orange Class. I must admit that I had read the articles from last fall’s opening and dedication but never visited the site. It was on my list of “things to do,” but I hadn’t yet. After spending time there, I quickly realized that this is a must-see for everyone. To visit a facility dedicated to those who gave their all for this country is extremely moving. The exhibit contains a wide array of educational tools ranging from historical exhibits to videotaped eyewitness accounts of Purple Heart recipients and their families. While there, I asked one of the guides how busy the place has been. He said, “Not too much.” That’s disappointing. Let’s change that by visiting the hall and paying tribute to the recipients. I encourage you to take some time to visit this treasure and see a snapshot of what our brave men and women have given up for our freedom. We are so fortunate to have the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor right in our backyard. For more information, call the museum at 561-1765. Steve Neuhaus Chester
