To the editor: Reference Mr. Anthony Portelli letter regarding the real estate transfer tax: I believe that Mr. Portelli is sadly mistaken. Where did he get his information from? There have been several studies done on the water draining into the Wallkill River from farm lands growing vegetables. The results have shown negligible amounts of nitrates and chemicals used on the crops run off. Insignificant residue was found in the water. All commercial users of chemicals and nitrates must be licensed and are monitored regularly. Could Mr. Portelli’s dealings in real estate be clouding his thinking? The real estate transfer tax will only impact on transfer of property between owners on sales of 100,000 dollars or more. It is in all taxpayers’ interest to vote yes on election day, Nov. 7, on this proposition. Mickey Shuback Farmer and Town of Warwick councilman
