The upcoming election

To the editor: Did you see the village meeting when the mayor’s attorney attempted to “clear” the mayor and a trustee of any legal problems brought on because the mayor signed those no-bid truck leases? The mayor should have thought this through three years ago. The mayor’s lawyer concerned himself with the legal problems, not the ethical ones. My understanding is that the mayor, even though he said he would write the ethics board for a determination, has not. It seems to me that this agreement was wrong, but then later, and only when this scandalous activity was exposed, the mayor’s attorney was tasked, at taxpayer’s expense, to see if it was illegal. At best, this is sloppy and it jeopardizes government’s credibility. But it sounds more like the Jack Abramoff scandal, I will scratch yours you scratch mine, or you vote my way and I’ll lease some trucks from your company, wink, wink nod, nod. Village elections are coming and there is time for those who want to be mayor to get the 100 signatures needed to be on the ballot. You have until the second week of February to collect them. The job is part-time (four hours a day), pays $36,000 per year plus health care, and a thoughtful leader could do it in less time. Stan Mocarsky Warwick
