The PTA is missing the point
To the editor: I have been reading the article on Breakfast with Santa for the Sandfordville Elementary School and I as a human being am really ashamed of how the parents of the PTA are demanding that just because something was always done in the past it should be continued just on the basis of that, with no regard for the consideration of the whole. I am very proud of the one parent that stood up to make a difference. We are taught that all it takes is one to change and I really feel the others gave no consideration or thought to what this parent was trying to do - include all without religious reference and just make a party that all children can enjoy. I see no reason why Santa has to be a part of this for the children to have fun. I am also very upset with some who turned this message totally around. It is not for showing differences among all of us because as we all know, no two people are the same as no two snowflakes are either. But we can come together as a whole society and enjoy a celebration of the season. I also am sad that some would feel that this fundraiser would be any less successful just because Santa will not be making an appearance. Does that mean if a store doesn’t display a Santa or Christmas tree during this season they will not go in a purchase anything there? I think not. At a time when there should be a coming together of all people, it is a shame that the PTA is holding so strongly to something that is so totally against our Constitution calling for a separation of church and state. What is next, Sandfordville PTA? Pictures with the Easter Bunny since he is just a “bunny” and not a religious icon? Elaine Gamza Warwick
