The final touch: One person can make a difference
To the editor: She didn’t ask for a vote. She didn’t organize a fund-raising project. She didn’t lobby for a consensus. She didn’t complain. She didn’t ask why someone else doesn’t do it. She didn’t wait until the weather was better, or less windy, or warmer. She didn’t ask what the community can do for her; instead, she asked what she could do for the community. Maureen Charde and a willing associate realized that the baskets needed help, especially when compared to the planters along Main St. They used some North Carolina pine cones (from Maureen’s daughter), together with native greens from another nursery and creativity, to put some final touches on this season’s decorations. So the next time you are walking or driving by the bridges on Bank Street or Main Street in Warwick and you wonder why the baskets look so nice and how they got there, say a silent “Thank You” to Maureen (www.hmff.com), one of the Warwick in Bloom volunteers who made time for others during a very busy time of the year.
