To the editor: Despite the rain on Saturday, April 22, the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce Operation Clean Sweep was a success, thanks to the many who helped out during Earth Day weekend. The Chamber would like to thank the official sponsors of the event, which included ShopRite, Avanti, Café a la Mode, and Bellvale Creamery, all of Warwick. ShopRite provided garbage bags, as well as juice and baked goods to be enjoyed by the brave volunteers who came to the chamber office on Saturday morning from 8-12 to register their roads and pick up bags and refreshments. Avanti provided financial support used to purchase additional supplies. Café a la Mode provided delicious hot coffee, which was much appreciated for those who came out in the cold rain. And Bellvale Creamery provided vouchers for free ice cream cones to children that participated. The Chamber also thanks the Mid-Orange Correctional Facility for picking up garbage along Route 94. Thanks also go to the Town and Village of Warwick for their cooperation, especially the Town Department of Public Works for picking up and disposing of the garbage collected. The Chamber also thanks the Sandfordville School PIE Program for its interest and participation in this event. Sandfordville has developed a special environmental project for students to track the amount and type of garbage in order to raise the community’s awareness. Last, but certainly not least, the Chamber thanks the many volunteers who picked up garbage throughout the Town. These citizens gave their time and energy (some in the rain!) to help keep Warwick beautiful. Let’s all make an effort to keep it that way! With gratitude, Lisa Montanaro of LM Organizing Solutions Operation Clean Sweep Committee Chair Linda Glohs, Executive Director of the Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce
