Ten ways to cut school taxes in half
To the editor: Everybody complains about astronomical school taxes without any concrete ideas how to fix this problem. I am giving a number of things to cut our taxes in half: 1. Cap administrative salaries. 2. Cap teacher salaries, all raises the same as S/S cost-of-living increase. 3. Eliminate the three “Ts”: Teachers union, Tenure, Thriboro amendment. 4. Start all school employees contributing to their health care and retirement. 5. Close all sports programs: too expensive. 6. Re-power buses instead of buying new; they have mechanics working anyway. 7. All school boards must tell state and feds “we are no longer honoring unfunded mandates.” 8. Class size to 30+; how many are in a college class? To do so, you must have respect and discipline. 9. Eliminate all baby sitting services, before and after school. It is time for people to raise their own children. 10. Build new schools if and when needed on old playing fields. This will cut your taxes at least in half. David R. Murphy Warwick
