Support from one supervisor to another
To the editor: I was pleased to attend the senior picnic in the Warwick Town Park at the end of August. Prior to the picnic, I had read accounts in some local and regional newspapers that the sky was falling in Warwick. When I looked up from my macaroni salad and saw the beautiful blue above decorated with delicate puffs of white, I realized the sky-falling accounts were false merely the bi-annual mantra of those seeking public office. The park was well maintained, Walt O’Dell still made the world’s best barbecued chicken and 600 people seemed to be having a good time. Regarding a more serious matter, the four town councilmen there assured me that open space continues to be preserved on a voluntary basis now with an additional source of funding. I suspected that Mike Sweeton, my successor as town supervisor, had a significant hand in these things at least the park maintenance and the preservation of open space. A brief conversation with him in the midst of his several picnic duties convinced me that he was thoroughly engaged in all town matters. Mike’s education, business experience and community service proved to be a good mix and have made him a successful public official. I plan to vote to re-elect Mike Sweeton on Nov. 6, and urge your readers to do likewise. Let’s keep Mike through 2011 when the sky will be falling again. Sincerely yours, Tony Houston Warwick
