Sommer ‘will be an effective rep'

To the editor: I am supporting Janne Sommer who is running for Orange County Legislator, not only for her long involvement with our community, but because of her positions on the issues that face the residents of Warwick and Orange County. Janne is strong advocate of keeping a viable farm economy in Orange County. She understands that it is critical to keep working farms close to large urban centers as transportation costs increase. County government should be a partner with our towns and villages in a planning process which encourages growth and redevelopment of the cities and settled areas and supports the construction of more affordable housing for our local work force while reducing the ever increasing effects of suburban sprawl on our schools, roads, and taxes. Janne has also proposed a program to reduce wasteful county spending on unnecessary growth-inducing projects while the existing infrastructure of roads and mass transit continues to deteriorate.
