Sommer announces for Warwick School Board

To the editor; I would like to take this opportunity to announce my candidacy for the Warwick Valley School Board. I have lived in Warwick long enough to understand that the school district must serve the whole community: From the children whose future is in our hands, to the parents whose focus is on the welfare of their children, to the senior citizens whose interest is in keeping the taxes at a level at which they do not have to choose between food and supporting the school. In regard to the taxes, I have served on the committee that arranged the summit on school tax reform that, I hope, entered into the governor’s plan for change. In the interests of the children and parents, I have served as host for the last six Ultamania basketball games between the high school teachers and the teachers from the middle and elementary schools. This is organized by the Warwick Lions Club of which I am a proud member. This club also provides training for all teachers in the school system in the Quest Personal Development Program to instill self- confidence, decision-making and harmony within the student body. In the Warwick community, I serve on the executive board of Orange Environment and helped organize this year’s Earth Day celebration, both in the Middle School and at the Rogowski farm. I have also worked on the committees for Purchase of Development Rights and the Warwick Preservation Fund. I am a member of the Town Recreation Board, the Warwick Masonic Lodge and the Warwick Historical Society. I have volunteered my time for many years at Winslow Therapeutic Center. I served in the United States Navy, became an electrician (now retired) and am married to Janne Sommer. We have three children and three grandchildren. I ask for your support in continuing to serve my community as a member of the Warwick Valley School Board. Very truly yours, Jerry Summer Warwick
