Shame on Smart Growth Alliance

To the editor: The quality of our drinking water is a genuine concern to me as it is to all citizens. I’m appalled that the Smart Growth Alliance is using this issue to justify why you should vote yes on the Real Estate Transfer Tax. They are claiming that development is causing water pollution. Did you know that farming also contributes to water pollution? Year after year farmers spray their fields with pesticides and an array of other poisonous chemicals which seep into our ground water. If the Smart Growth Alliance is genuinely interested in our water why is it that the property bordering the Village of Warwick’s Reservoirs still has not been preserved? In my opinion this should have been the first parcel preserved. Instead it waits to be turned into an upscale subdivision of new homes. Fellow Taxpayers the Real Estate Transfer Tax Proposition is wrong for our pocketbook and wrong for this community. Vote no on Election Day Nov. 7 Anthony Portelli Former Mayor Village of Warwick
