School board did right in bringing request to public

To the editor: We would like to thank the members of the Chester Board of Education for openly and honestly bringing Greenwood Lake’s request to the taxpayers as soon as they received that request. It was certainly the board’s responsibility to inform the public that Greenwood Lake wanted Chester to accept their 9th to 12th grade students as tuition students in 2007. After attending the board meetings, we were surprised at the animosity of those who were in attendance. We personally asked the board to explore all of the possibilities, including the cost effectiveness of increasing our student population. You listened to our concerns and provided answers to each and every question. The information that you provided at the Feb. 8 board meeting made it clear that we couldn’t accommodate all of those students from Greenwood Lake. Since the new school’s operating capacity is for 610 students instead of 1,000 that we were told at the time of the building vote, it was apparent that we couldn’t accept Greenwood Lake’s students. Congratulations on a job well done. Tony Mancuso Diane Mancuso Goshen
