Responding to questions about recycling

A frequent writer to your paper, Mr. Stanaitis, asked some pertinent questions regarding the switch to single stream recycling which deserved answers. First, this switch while increasing the frequency of pick up from every other week to once a week is costing you the taxpayer less. This is itemized on your January tax bill. Cost of recycling was reduced by 17 percent. With the switch, the vendor supplied every household with the largest container so that every household would be assured of getting their recyclables collected. We did publicize that the vendor is happy to switch out the large bin to a smaller size at no cost to the town. They can be reached at 355-4500 if any resident wishes to make this switch. Finally, this switch was made because most haulers including Orange County is switching to this method which historically increases the amount of recyclable material per household. I hope this answers the questions raised. Michael P. Sweeton, Supervisor Town of Warwick
