Promote women's health, save government money

Representative Nan Hayworth of the 19th Congressional District has a conflicting interpretation of the powers of government. While believing in a limited central government, minimally involved with citizens, she favors extreme intervention in the private lives of women. Hayworth is supporting the elimination of funding for Planned Parenthood by the federal government. This is an organization that provides affordable health care to 93 million women, who, under other circumstances, would not be able to afford such health care. By providing information about contraception, through education, Planned Parenthood is actually preventing abortions - decisions about which should be private between a woman and those she asks for help - not to be determined by the government. Children born who are not wanted are often the victims of abuse and neglect, placing additional monetary burdens on our education and health systems. Services provided by Planned Parenthood not only promote the health of women, they save the government money. Ruth Knoblauch Warwick
