Problem moved, not solved

To the editor: Many years ago the park at Daren Road had playground equipment and young adults hung out there at all hours at night. The next morning, parents would bring their young children to the park to find the equipment vandalized, broken beer bottles, drug paraphenalia and condoms. Now the recreation committee is proposing to close the basketball court on Mila/Helena Roads due to complaints from nearby residents regarding problems with the young people who play there, leaving only the court on Daren Road available. So the problem will be moved, instead of solved. Many residents live around the Daren Park, as well as Wickham Village residents whose backyards face this park. Have Wickham residents been approached for their opinion? I say get rid of all courts and plant trees and bushes instead. If these young people are unwilling to change their negative behavior, which was apparent at both town meetings and backed by some of their parents, sad to say, why spend in excess of $52,000 for them? I’ll tell you right now, the residents around the Daren Park will not put up with any bad behavior, and if there are any problems, calls to the police will be made until the problem is solved, not just moved.
