Part of something greater than ourselves

To the editor: I love it when a simple trip to the market makes me feel like I’m a part of something greater than myself. Silly as it may sound, that is how I feel each time I use my “green” bags at ShopRite and I encourage others to do the same. It’s never easy to change our habits and it was a challenge for me to remember to take my bags to the market. But now it has become routine. Here is how I got started using cloth bags: I put all of my bags in a nice flat-shaped cloth bag that is easy to hang on the knob of the door that leads to the car. I began to put the bags in the front passenger seat so I wouldn’t forget them in the back seat once I got to the market, as I had done so many times. I even got my son involved. Kids love to remind us of things we’ve forgotten. Sometimes I ask him to bring the bags out to the car right after I put the groceries away. So if you are at ShopRite in Warwick, using cloth bags, and you see a woman giving you the thumbs-up, it’s me feeling that “we” are a part of something greater than ourselves - taking a simple action to control waste and protect the earth for our children.
