One man's ‘political theory of everything'

To the editor: Our conservative government should be more understanding of Islamic jihadists because they have so much in common. For example, Muslims want laws to prohibit representations of Mohammad; conservatives want laws prohibiting desecration of the American flag. Jihadists believe in capital punishment and so do conservatives. Jihadists oppose abortion, and so do conservatives. Jihadists oppose civil rights for gays and want foreigners out of their countries. And so do conservatives. Jihadists believe that God is on their side and conservatives believe that God is on theirs. Jihadists believe in violence to gain their ends and so do conservatives. Both believe in vengeance on a day of reckoning. Both jihadists and conservatives are willing to fight war without end. It seems to me that the true enemy of conservatives is not Muslims but liberals because liberals oppose capital punishment and torture, endorse civil rights for gays and immigrants, abortion rights for women (after all, rights come from God, not the state, remember?) and believe that no supernatural power takes sides in human affairs. Finally, liberals oppose preemptive attacks by anyone and seek reconciliation rather than vengeance. Jihadists and conservatives indulge their bigotry and prejudice while liberals believe that instincts born of ignorance and fear are aspects of human nature that we must overcome. So now you have it: a political theory of everything. K.J. Walters Monroe
