Never-ending taxes
To the editor: Seymour Gordon stated in your Sept. 22 edition” “There is no provision for a renewal order for PDR bonding in five years-or any time in the future-period!” There is nothing stopping The Open Space Preservation Board or the Smart Growth Alliance from petitioning the Town Board to put a PDR Tax extension on the ballot when the original PDR Tax expires in five years. This is what happened at the five eastern most towns on Long Island. The Real Estate Transfer Tax also will be put up for a vote when its term expires too. Never-ending taxes. These groups are always preaching about our school taxes. I remember in the early 1980s when citizens were deeply concerned about the possibility of closing an elementary school. What would that empty building become? Can’t always have it both ways. Be honest. Since PDR Tax was put in place. How much money have you saved on your taxes? They still go up each and every year.
