Much more than fish stories
To the editor On Saturday, May 5, the Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club will hold its annual “Take a Kid Fishing Day” for children residing in the Town of Warwick. This event, for youngsters between the ages of 5 and 14, is provided for children who do not have access to a stream. It gives them the opportunity to enjoy the wildlife and environment surrounding their community. This event will again he held on the Baird Farm on Baird’s Lane between 9:30 a.m. and noon. On the morning of the event, the Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club will stock approximately 500 trout for the benefit of the children. As this is not a contest, it has been the practice for the club to award a prize to each participating child, whether the child has caught a fish or not. These prizes have included fishing rod and reel combos, tackle boxes, lures and other outdoor recreation items not necessarily related to fishing. In recent years, as a result of the growth of our community, attendance at this event has grown dramatically. More than 275 youngsters participated last year. In large measure, the success of this event has been due to the support which local businesses and individuals have provided to the club. Once again, I am asking for your support in the form of either a monetary donation or articles which are related to fishing or the outdoors in general. As always, all contributions will be used exclusively for the “Take a Kid Fishing Day,” either in prizes or for funds directly related to supporting this event. Any articles you may wish to donate can be scheduled for pick up by calling me at 986-5001. My sincere thanks. Jerry DeBold, Fishing Day Chairman Warwick Valley Rod & Gun Club
