Many thanks for making the GWL bed race such a success

The inclement weather of July 4 could not dampen the spirits of all who participated in the Annual Greenwood Lake Bed Race. While the race was postponed until this past Saturday, July 23, for safety reasons, the delay only created more anticipation for the this local event celebrating its 36th anniversary. Once again the bed race was a tremendous success as hundreds of people turned out in the heat to watch the race down Windermere Avenue in the Village of Greenwood Lake. On behalf of the GWL Rec Committee, I would like to thank our sponsors: Price Chopper of Warwick and the employees of the GWL Chase Bank, all of our supporters, The Sons and Ladies Auxiliary of the GWL American Legion, Emerald Point Restaurant and Marina, Blanket Boss, Murphy’s Restaurant, Hayden Construction, GWL Auto, the GWL Gaelic Cultural Society, Greenwood Lake Garden Supply and O’Hare’s Pub. An apology to St. Anthony Community Hospital who was unable to participate due to scheduling problems. A big thank you to all our volunteers, including our judges Bailey Frey and Sally Warnock. Our race day staff: GWL Trustee Chris Casse, Matt Buckley, Deirdre Spalthoff, Mike Bender, Bill Key and Wire Nutz, Kathleen Holder, Carol Flood, Denis Spalthoff, Ed English, and Tori Campion. Special thanks also to Eric Kelm, Paul Donahue and the staff at Murphy’s Restaurant for all they do to make this day a success. The bed race committee would also like to thank Mayor Barbara Moore, Trustee Kelli Kelm and Village Clerks Pat Olsen and Beth Farrell, We would especially like to thank Chief John Hanson and the GWL Police Department for all their help in rescheduling our event and working to make the day a fun and safe one for all involved, and the GWL Ambulance Corps for volunteering their services once again. Lastly, we would like to thank all of you, the resident, visitors, families and friends of Greenwood Lake for coming out to cheer the contestants and support our event. We look forward to seeing everyone again next summer in Greenwood Lake. Thank you. Dave Spalthoff GWL Recreation Committee
