Mambo meets Tango to support our troops
To the editor: Muchas gracias! What a marvelous show of support for our second annual “Support Our Heroes” benefit dance, held in Warwick this past Sunday. I was so deeply touched by everyone’s generosity. The benefit was special in so many ways. Lucy and Luis Mercado from the Support Our Heroes Foundation are very grateful for your donations. We were able to raise a substantial amount of money, in addition to items donated for the care packages. The two soldiers adopted, Christopher Smolinksi and Matt Harvey, and their platoons, will directly benefit from your contributions. What a good feeling to know that our efforts are encouraging our soldiers. Jubilee is committed to doing this particular benefit every year, until our troops come home safely. The American Legion Post 214 in Warwick is dedicated to a Vietnam hero, the late Nicholas Lesando Jr. It was so appropriate to host the benefit at this legion hall. Mr. and Mrs. Lesando Sr. were moved by the generosity of the community. We thank them for donating their facility. We dedicated this event to all our fallen heroes, veterans of war and to the victims and heroes of 9/11. The evening continued to be special as “Mambo Meets Tango!” guests were treated to a special performance by Jubilee instructors, Denise and Carlos Miranda, who did their Salsa magic on the floor; Jerry and Adele Klein, who always grace the dance floor; and a special surprise guest performance from one of the original cast members of the world-renowned Broadway show, “Tango Argentino” - choreographer and Tango expert, Nelson Avila, with his wife and dance partner, Madalyn Klien. Also a special thank you to DJ Barry - El Sonido; WTBQ - The Latin Jubilee Show; The Latino Market and Deli; Linda Harvey; Roger Gavan; and Sonia Ayala. If you did not attend this dance, but would like to find out more, log on to www.supportourheores.net. Thank you to all who attended - we all enjoyed, danced, and celebrated Life! What a special afternoon, September 17th turned out to be for all our heroes. God bless you all for your generosity, your support of Jubilee events, and for your love of dance.
