Making Albany face

the issue it’s been avoiding To the editor: The Warwick Advertiser (July 28) had a article about school tax rebate checks. In the article, a Mr. Frank Compitello voiced his dismay at the cost of running our schools. It is a known fact the working man and fixed-income retired persons in the district are fast loosing ground and must leave the area they spent a lifetime in. To get control of the school finances, cancel all standing contracts and rewrite them to start all personal contributing to their benefit programs all the way to the top levels in the administration. Cap all salaries and raises at the cost of living increase. Look into lease buses or contract out transportation. Make bus stops at one quarter mile distance. They must also make persons working in the district live in the district - not in some other low tax area or other state. You make it here, you help support it here. Increase class size; to do so we must have discipline and respect that’s on both sides. Sports costs are way out of sight; eliminate sports. If parents want sports, let them do the little league type thing at their expense. The greatest tool the taxpayer has is the vote. When you vote, vote to remove the rubber stamp arms of the administration. We need people that will stand up to the state and say: “As of now - 2006 - we are not honoring any unfunded mandates.” It will only take one district in the state and the rest will jump on board. Albany will threaten with jail, fines, etc., but when the landslide starts, they will fold. And Albany will have to face fact and handle an issue it has been avoiding. David Murphy Pine Island
