Warwick Operation Clean-Sweep thanks its sponsors and volunteers
The Warwick Valley Chamber of Commerce Operation Clean Sweep was a success due to many who assisted on the weekend of April 27-29.
The Chamber wishes to thank the official sponsors of the event: the Tuscan Café, St. Anthony Community Hospital and ShopRite. The Tuscan Café provided delicious hot coffee. St. Anthony Community Hospital provided gloves to keep the volunteers hands clean and safe. ShopRite provided garbage bags, as well as lots of food and refreshments, enjoyed by the volunteers who came to the chamber office on Saturday morning to register their roads and pick up bags.
Special notes of gratitude go to Heather Storms, Julia Vargas and Guy Bogart.
Heather and Julia are members of the Hudson Girl Scout Troop 788 and 423 respectively, and Warwick Valley School District students. They coordinated the efforts of Scout Troops and other clubs to collect refuse along many of our town roads.
Guy Bogart, owner of Warwick Sanitation, again donated the use of his truck to aid the Department of Public Works in the removal of roadside garbage collections.
We would also like to thank the Town and Village of Warwick for their cooperation, especially the Department of Public Works for picking up and disposing of the garbage collected and Orange County for waiving the dumping fee.
We would also like to thank The Computer Guy for offering to be the collection point for all of our electronic recycling; the Warwick Valley Lions for arranging for the paper shredding truck that was used to dispose of nine tons of paper; and finally the Warwick Valley Coalition for arranging for the prescription pill drop-off which collected 95 pounds of medications.
We appreciate the enthusiastic participation of Greenwood Lake, Pine Island and Florida. It was truly a town-wide effort.
Most importantly, the chamber thanks the 400+ volunteers who picked up garbage throughout the Town of Warwick. These citizens gave their time and energy to help keep Warwick beautiful.
Lets all make an effort to keep it that way. If everyone tries to maintain the front of their property along the road, it will bring us that much closer to a litter-free town.
With gratitude, Dr. Ray Bryant
