The plastic bag problem

| 08 Mar 2018 | 02:04

As one who has used plastic bags in the past, I understand the frantic thoughts of "what can I use if not plastic...."
But we can change. I did. Also, in reading about some of the concerns, I want to remind people that pet poo is biodegradable. Plastic is not.
So we should not be putting poo or litter in plastic bags because we are creating mounds of non-biodegradable rubbish.
Please use instead paper or compostable bags. I buy at ShopRite a package of 100 paper lunch bags for a little over a dollar (the Dollar Store sells them, too) and scoop my cat litter into that. Doing it leaves me with several months of paper bags.
The compostable bags are more expensive but are good for our home garbage as well. It is worth it.
We need to stop being addicted to our conveniences. Our conveniences are not so slowly destroying all that we've taken for granted and hold dear: a clean environment with clean water and healthy soil.
Plastics are destroying all of it. I encourage everyone to step up to the plate and pledge to give up plastic and go back to paper and glass.
