The ‘heroes’ of Hurricane Sandy
I’ve come to the conclusion the only heroes that our elected officials portray as being heroes are our police, firefighters and first responders, all of who are being paid by the tax payers (these guys are getting paid the big bucks just for doing their jobs).
I don’t get it. We have entrusted our elected officials in managing our resources yet they showboat themselves wanting to take credit for doing a good job for its people.
The governor of New Jersey called its people stupid, yet with nearly five million people left in the dark without electricity, our news media is broadcasting live coverage around the clock throughout the NYC metro region to blank television screens.
How stupid is that you might ask?
Then again, for those of you that might be watching the news reporters reporting live looking stupid risking their life’s just to bring the five million viewers that don’t have electricity.
Hell, I would rather be watching Dancing with the Stars then watching them report the news blowing around in the wind.
Let’s see, five days after the aftermath from hurricane Sandy, my family, along with millions of others families, are still in the dark, without heat, food and water.
Let’s not forget about the gas stations starving for electricity to power the gas pumps.
This just in: Reports of New Jersey police writing tickets for waiting in line, pushing people away from gas station.
Looks like our heroes are back to work.
Governor Cuomo said not to worry - help is on the way from three sources: FEMA, Private Insurance (if you have any) and finally our state resources.
Well, I called FEMA, waited on the phone for nearly an hour only to be turned away saying we can’t help you.
I was advised to call 211 the next step in the process; they, too, turned me away.
I didn’t think to call the state for help, as they are too busy with those TV ads (I approve this message) and looking for new cash cows to run our cash-strapped government.
Day six: As I look around our community partially still in the dark, downed power lines, down trees sitting on top of our homes, roads full of debris, long gas lines, and, yes, our nowhere to be found elected officials.
Well, I’ve said my peace, wanting to share my thoughts with the true heroes of Hurricane Sandy. Yes, you guessed it “we the taxpayer” are the true heroes.
We, the true heroes, might be down but were not out because we have each other.
Thank God we didn’t lose Direct TV and the NFL; we would all be in a real mess!
All the best,
Andrew Reilly
