The animal shelter is 50 years old

I am one of those lucky people who was born and raised in Warwick. When I was 11 years old I started volunteering at the shelter. At that time Gretchen Wyler was running it and it was nearly brand new and didn’t have many dogs and cats.
Over the years the Warwick Valley Humane Society has repaired and renovated but the building is still in need of more repairs and beyond renovation. With the population of Warwick ever increasing, so has the number of homeless animals to the point of overcrowding.
The Village of Warwick is so gorgeous with the old fashion lamp posts with lanterns, fancy street signs, big planters with flowers, etc.
Then you drive a few minutes out of town to an outdated and overcrowded animal shelter just across from a brand new bus garage.
It’s bad enough that the cats, dogs and rabbits don’t have homes of their own, but couldn’t we at least make it more comfortable for them while they wait to be adopted?
After 50 years, it’s time to re-build our shelter, a shelter for the safekeeping of our community’s homeless pets.
