Many thanks to the Greenwood Lake Food Pantry

Pat Nolan wrote a beautiful letter published in the January 8-14 edition of The Warwick Advertiser titled “Many Thanks From The Greenwood Lake Food Pantry” in which she extolled the generosity of our community which includes organizations, businesses and individuals.

Pat also mentioned the extraordinary generosity during this year’s Angel Giving Tree and some of the volunteers who worked on this project.

What Pat failed to mention are the year-round volunteers who make the pantry a mainstay of our community.

On the top of that list are Pat Nolan, her husband Bill and Darcie Barman.

Pat and Darcie took over the administration of the pantry about a year ago, stepping in for Barbara Juby who had worked tirelessly for many years as the face of the pantry.

Barbara’s dedication and spirit of service brought the pantry to be the smoothly run organization it has become. The transition has gone seamlessly.

“Santa Bob” is in fact a 12-month Santa. My terrific sister-in-law Pat Albers is a consistent volunteer as are:

    Vince Darcy

    Katja Cucciardi

    Phyllis Nathan

    John Careccia

    Bob Lenahan

    Barbara Dreyhaupt

    Bob Jansson

    Tony and Colin Davidson

    Joan Fleischmann

    Betty and Todd Lange

    Phil and Nicole Hernandez

    Cathy Kellinger

The work of these volunteers includes offloading trucks, stocking shelves, tracking inventory and finances and working with the public.

They always perform these tasks with a gracious demeanor. None of this would be possible without the generosity of Father Gus (and his predecessor Father Bob) and Jane Kubenik, administrators of Holy Rosary Church. They have been very accommodating in allowing the use of precious space.

The Angel Giving Tree is set up in the post office. The staff at the post office go above and beyond helping to set up, take down and store the tree. They are also at the front line of communication fielding questions and concerns.

Thank you to all the selfless volunteers who make the pantry a place of pride in Greenwood Lake.

    Sincerely yours,

    John Cox
