Support a fracking ban
If you think a fracking ban would be an obvious win for Warwick, you need to let the Town Board know.
Members of Sustainable Warwick have been presenting information to the board for months. The Town Conservation Board submitted an extensive, well-documented report to the town and unanimously recommended a ban. Letters to the editor supporting a ban have appeared.
As of now, the Town Board has not committed to drafting a law and setting a public hearing date. Certainly the board wants to be careful and dot all its i’s and cross all its t’s when creating new laws and regulations.
However, I am very concerned that once New York State lifts its moratorium (expected in February), the state will be open for fracking. Why take a chance on losing local control of this issue?
Several people I’ve spoken to have assumed that the Town Board will act to prohibit fracking and fracking related activities. I am not convinced of this.
The Town Board needs to know how Warwick citizens and taxpayers feel about this issue. Let your voices be heard.
Call or write the Town Board.
