‘Set the right example’

Just getting home from a busy day at work, I see another email from the Warwick Valley Central School District. Unlike the other notifications we have been receiving, this notification made me so angry that I was compelled to write to the editor of this paper.

Why is the entire Warwick Valley High School shut down for 12 days?

Here’s why: There were irresponsible parents who allowed their children first to have Halloween parties this past weekend, second masks were not worn and the kids were not socially distancing and third there were parents who allowed their children to attend these parties.

What were you all thinking? Your complacency and plain disregard for your children’s safety and the other children’s safety has resulted in and entire school being shut down.

It’s really okay to say “no” to your child, it’s part of a parent’s job, especially when the result of saying “yes” has severe consequences.

Do you even care what your recklessness resulted in? How many kids will now get COVID, how many of those kids will pass it on to their parents, younger siblings, or their elderly grandparents?

Did you like being in lockdown for months? Did your children like it? We all are in control of keeping COVID out of our schools, if we all just follow the rules, our kids do every day.

As you sit home for the next two weeks with your sick, quarantined kids, think about if the parties were worth it.

Warwick parents, please think before you put your kids, other kids or families at risk. Follow the guidelines and maybe our kids can finish school, actually in school, instead of at home. T

he school district, teachers and our kids work really hard every day following the rules that keep them safe in school. We as parents should be working just as hard if not harder to do the same. Set the right example.

To the kids who had the courage to speak up and brought the situation to the school districts attention, thank you, you did the right thing.
