Respect has to be earned

I’ve get the DT’s - Donald Twitters from President Trump. I am deeply concerned at the direction our President is taking the country. No longer do we have the respect of many other countries.
I learned you respect the uniform, position, etc., not necessarily the man.
Flashback: I was in London, England on May 8, 1945, VE Day. The war was over in the ETO. I arrived in London after being held by the Germans as a Prisoner of War.
The outpouring of love, relief, euphoria ... were a sight and the sound I will never forget.
Nothing, not even a super bowl or New York City celebrating Aug. 14, 1945, the day Japan surrendered, could come close to the Brits celebration in Barkley Square.
I was standing next to a middle age Brit. He was going ‘bananas” as the King and Queen’s coach passed by.
I asked why he was so exuberant.
I will never forget what he said.
“When the King and Queen goes by, that’s me” that’s love. That’s respect.
Now, 73 plus years later, how can any American show respect for this President, Donald Trump, when he declined to visit the World War I Memorial that was minutes away, on Veterans Day.
    As usual, he blamed others.
How can anyone show respect for a leader of the greatest country in the world who lies constantly, cheats on wives, insults just about everyone, take no responsibility.
He calls those he “likes” ”the greatest, the largest, the best, the finest” and conversely, insulting anyone and everyone who has rebuked him.
His lack of knowledge of history and regard for our Constitution is beyond explanation.
Every President, regardless of party, has reached out to Americans to be the President of all the people.
This President has continued to inflame the “other side” and split the country.
That’s why I have the DT’s. When I see President Trump, I cannot say “that’s me” that’s respect.
