Relay for Life gives cancer patients a fighting chance
To the Editor:
The Goshen Relay for Life is having its 10th Relay for Life on June 15, and 2013 is also the 100th anniversary of the American Cancer Society
Like most of us, we all know too many people whose lives have been touched by cancer. Picture yourself walking around a track, surrounded by family and friends, encouraging each other to make another lap, as you celebrate those who’ve fought cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against a disease that has taken too much from too many. This is the scene at every American Cancer Society Relay for Life event.
The money raised through Relay for Life events support the American Cancer Society’s lifesaving work, like Hope Lodge facilities, which offer cancer patients a free place to stay, comfort, and support when they have to travel far from home for treatment.
Too many people, including possibly someone you know, will be diagnosed with cancer this year. A Relay for Life event is our opportunity to inspire hope by raising funds and awareness to help those facing the disease.
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life program is about so much more than just walking around a track overnight. At Relay for Life events, we celebrate loved ones who have won their battle against cancer, remember those who are no longer with us, and fight back against this disease that takes so much from so many.
In addition to funding lifesaving research, every dollar raised helps the American Cancer Society provide services to cancer patients in need, like providing rides to treatment for those who don’t have transportation of their own.
Thank you so much for your support. Together, we are saving lives from cancer and creating a world with more birthdays!
