Michael Newhard 'has been mayor for long time, for good reason'
For over a year while serving on the Village of Warwick's Sesquicentennial Committee, I got to know Mayor Michael Newhard.
What I witnessed was a man with tireless energy totally committed to his community.
This is a man who grew up in Warwick who has never lost his love for it.
He balances being a small-business owner with spending countless hours in running a village. He is a leader and a problem solver.
Somehow during 2017, Mayor Newhard was able to lead Warwick in holding a giant, year-long celebration to commemorate the village's 150th birthday.
From the beginning, I saw the mayor encourage numerous groups and organizations to take part. Efforts were made to include all - young, old, people of color, the military and veterans, LGBTQ and many more.
So week after week there were wonderful, colorful events. Yes, a lot of folks took part in making them a reality, but the mayor was the biggest organizer and cheerleader.
He especially loves parades.
Mayor Newhard believes in inclusion and in making Warwick a vibrant, exciting, liveable village. He's been a mayor for a long time, for good reason.
His energy hasn't waned, nor has his quest to make the village even better.
I hope he remains the mayor of Warwick.
