Library director: 'To continue to reach out and improve where needed'
Each year we hold an election to approve the levy portion of our Library’s operating budget and elect trustees to serve on our Library Board.
This year that election was this past Tuesday, April 2. I am happy to report that 88 percent of the voters approved our levy and Colleen Larsen and Amanda Tarallo were elected to five-year terms as Library Trustees.
Thanks to the Friends of the Library for their dedicated and enthusiastic support.
And to Jennifer Bengel from the Warwick Valley School District, who expertly oversees the election.
This is my 18th year as Director of the Library and 18th annual Library vote.
I must admit to a mixture of emotions each year as this time approaches; a jumble of nerves and respect for the process.
A successful vote means we can continue to innovate, respond and improve library programs and service.
It does not however, let us take this support for granted; 88 percent responded in support, but 12 percent did not and they are a part of the community that we are chartered to serve.
My hope and commitment is to continue to reach out and improve where needed.
Voting is an important way to communicate once a year, but conversation is an opportunity all year long.
Please stop by and share your ideas and concerns with me at the Library or rcooper@rcls.org.
Official results of the vote are 399 voters in favor and 37 opposed. More details on the vote can be found at www.albertwisnerylibrary.org.
Thank you.
