Keith Parsons states his case for BOE

My name is Keith Parsons and I am running for the Warwick Valley Central School District Board of Education. My reasoning for pursuing a spot on the board is simple: I want to bring fresh ideas, look for creative solutions and promote responsible fiscal decisions.

I believe everyone in the school district should have an equal say. Recent events are what prompted me to run for the board out of a sense of necessity to represent everyone in the community.

After speaking with many people, I was prompted to run due to my objective and rational decision making because they believe that I will make decisions based on the greater good. I have been a resident of the district for 10 years and I am currently working in the pharmaceutical industry after spending nine years in telecommunications. My wife and I have been together for 16 years and have three young children, two are currently enrolled in the district and my third will start kindergarten in two years. Because of my children I have a vested interest. I am in this for the long term.

I have seen the closing of two schools in the past several years and I think that we as a community can do better, our children deserve better. There are outside factors that are impacting us financially, but I am a fiscal conservative. Simply stated, I look for alternative means of saving money. We need to look beyond what is on the surface and dig deep into every situation that is going to impact our students as well as our taxpayers. Difficult decisions always need to be made, but I believe there are other ways to do it than closing schools and compromising programs.

My commitment is an unwavering intensity to do what is right and represent everyone; student, parent and taxpayer. I will ask the difficult questions. I will vote for the most fiscally responsible decision that impacts our students the least.

I am looking forward to serving the community as an objective advocate for the children as well as the taxpayers of our community. Please vote Keith Parsons for BOE on May 21st.
