'It just doesn't add up'

I’ve been following the proposed bar/restaurant on Elm Street in the Village of Warwick and I’m puzzled by the Village Board’s approval of this use of the property.
On first glance at the proposed site one might think it wouldn’t be horrible. There is a wooded area between the lot and the adjacent houses. That and a good fence could limit the effect on the neighbors.
However, I was shown where the property line actually is and it is very close to the back porches of the neighbor’s houses. Worse yet, the board approved the construction of the bar/restaurant up near that property line. This allowed the building to be out of a flood plain and right up against these neighbor’s back porches.
How does the board think this is in anyway acceptable?
Up until now I had respect for the people that were elected to look out for the Village of Warwick. They have stuck to some really good rules and it shows in our prosperous, clean and vibrant downtown. I have to say that I am very disappointed in their decision to allow one person to negatively affect the lives of many people, though. The same people that they are supposed to be protecting the interests of.
I’m also disappointed in the business owners of the proposed establishment as well as the property. These are people that have long-standing relationships with this town and village. Do they just not care about the people that live here? Is money more important than the people they call neighbors. It all seems very sad that they are so callous in their ventures.
The purpose of the board, I would imagine, is to look out for the well being of its residents. All of its residents. Not just the ones with money and influence. We have many residents and their families that will have their personal lifestyle at home as well as their property value negatively effected for a couple of residents that want to advance themselves financially. It just doesn’t add up.
