Governor Cuomo needs to rescind CPV permits in light of corruption
We citizens of Orange County are the victims of corruption by the Governor’s former top aide, Joseph Percoco, who was recently convicted of soliciting bribes from CPV.
The CPV fracked gas power plant is a danger to the health, safety and environment of our county, but somehow it got all the permits it needed.
When corruption is found, the public trust has been broken; this corruption calls the entire CPV project into question.
It was already fishy that the CPV plant was nearly completed before all the necessary permits were issued. We don’t need a smoking gun linking the bribery to any particular permit to call for this plant to be stopped.
Governor Cuomo is the person with the legal power and the moral responsibility to revoke CPV’s permits. These permits need to be revoked immediately before CPV pollutes our air and endangers our health any more.
We in Orange County will not tolerate the Governor’s inaction. We will not let this blow over. This corruption was in the Governor’s house and the Governor needs to clean it up.
We don’t have time to wait for a legislative solution. Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus and members of the Orange County Legislature have also called for the permits to be rescinded, but through legislation – always a lengthy and uncertain process.
I call upon our elected officials to urge Governor Cuomo to shut down this plant immediately.
