Fuzzy math
In 2011, Warwick School Superintendent, Dr. Bryant, claimed that the only school that could possibly be closed was Pine Island because they couldn’t push the other schools over 90 percent capacity.
Yet, with the closing of Kings this year, Park will be at 98 percent capacity.
To make the closing of Kings look possible, Warwick is moving fifth graders to the Middle School without asking the community’s opinion or doing any educational impact studies.
Parents doing their own survey found that just 13.6 percent of residents think moving the fifth grade is a good idea.
Warwick hopes to save $1.5M by closing Kings, but they haven’t deducted how much closing Kings or moving fifth grader will cost.
In 2011 Dr. Bryant said moving 5th grade was impossible because moving 300 students would cost $1.832M in renovations, additional busses and routes, an assistant principal, nurse, part time art teacher, part time PE teacher, custodian, food service helpers, school monitors, typist, AIS teacher and a special ed teacher.
Now moving fifth graders doesn’t cost anything?
It’s not surprising that just 25 percent of those polled think the Warwick Board is doing a good job and only 16 percent have confidence in the leadership of Superintendent Bryant.
