'Find a better'
Concerning the 5 cent fee for plastic bags being considered for referendum in November in Warwick New York:
I believe this to be taxation without representation in the most extreme way.
I can understand a deposit: Bring your plastic bags back, get your 5 cents back.
The only people benefitting from this illegal tax are ShopRite and Price Chopper.
Plastic bags are cheap and the town is increasing the price to the consumer and increasing the profit of a corporation without any commitment from the supplier of bags or any reward to the taxpayer.
I hear all the time there is so much plastic in the oceans. Well, unless the transfer station is taking my garbage and dumping it in the ocean, I don't think it is a problem that comes from here.
They already have a place to drop off your used bags in the supermarkets. Do something with them instead of putting them in the land fill. Force them to provide compostable bags. Outlaw cruise ships, and airplanes from dumping their garbage into the ocean.
Find a better way. The corporations should find a new bag instead of making people pay for inferior bags, which the people that can afford to will buy and the people that can't will get an exemption.
Stupid tax.
