Facts vs. ideology

This letter is in response to the “Bullying disguised as Patriotism” letter to editor, featured in the Aug. 3rd issue of The Warwick Advertiser.

    Bullying? Bullying??? Wow!

Where do I begin? I hate to confuse historic facts with warped ideology, but years before the great bullying nation of the USA declared war on the Axis powers, Japan systematically massacred over 12,000,000 Chinese civilians. Yes, the comma is in the correct place.

Germany massacred over 14,000,000 Soviet civilians; 6,000,000 Jews; 2,000,000 from India; 5, 400,000 from Poland; 514,000 from Yugoslavia.

The list can go on. If the USA did not drop that bomb, more innocent civilians would have been murdered.

Here are some dates that would be more appropriate to stand vigil:

    • Dec. 7: Pearl Harbor • April 9: Bataan Death March

    • Dec. 13: Nanjing massacre • June 6: D–Day

    • Sept. 11 • And every Memorial Day (just a reminder, I mean for this country).

If less time was spent standing outside and more time was spent sitting in a library, maybe these obtuse views could possibly change.

I am sick of hearing people apologize for the United States. In a perfect world we would all hold hands and work out our differences. I’m sure all of the millions that were shot, beheaded, burned, buried alive, experimented on would have preferred that the bomb be dropped much earlier.

Hiroshima and Nagasaki had military significance; they were not just a random civilian target. Japan was not going to surrender if those bombs were not dropped. Their culture found surrendering a disgrace. Compromise and thoughtful negotiation were looked upon as weakness.

So let’s recap: Before the bullying nation of the United States bombed Hiroshima, upwards of 15,000,000 innocent civilians were massacred.

After the bomb, zero. Hmmm. I guess that loving one another only works if both sides do the loving.
