County executive must stop personal attacks

To the Editor:
It is a sad reflection on the leadership and maturity of County Executive Steven Neuhaus to express his disappointment over losing the Valley View lawsuit by questioning the judicial decision-making of Judge Elaine Slobod and the journalistic integrity of The Chronicle. His efforts would have been better spent finding ways to continue lowering the costs of running Valley View and not blaming others for his failure to properly carry out his executive duties.

To unfairly characterize Judge Slobod's decision as one based on public pressure and not on the rule of law is simply unfair and inexcusable. Most readers of The Chronicle appreciate the objective quality and depth of its coverage of the Valley View story even though Mr. Neuhaus erroneously states that it has been a front-page story for the past six months. I am confident that the newspaper's editors have offered him ample opportunities to provide the reasoning behind his decision to transfer Valley View to an LDC. The Chronicle has generally provided favorable coverage of Mr. Neuhaus when he was a town supervisor and for him to now resort to erroneous claims of a personal vendetta against him is regrettable and conduct unbecoming of a the county's top elected official

It is my hope that the county executive will learn from this experience and in the future not resort to personal attacks against those whom he perceives do not agree with him.
