Bill DiMartini seeks re-election
My name is Bill DiMartini and I’m running for re-election as a Commissioner of the Warwick Fire District.
My parents, as well as my time in the U.S. Army, taught me the importance of community service, a lesson that has served me well.
I have been involved in the volunteer fire service for more than 35 years, rising through the ranks from firefighter to lieutenant, then captain, assistant chief, and most recently serving as chief of the Warwick Fire Department from 2007 through 2008. Serving my community is part of who I am.
For those of you who may not be aware, the Warwick Fire District consists of five commissioners publicly elected under the laws of New York State. Each commissioner serves a five-year term.
Like the firefighters they work with, fire commissioners volunteer their time for no pay, taking on the responsibility of providing the necessary apparatus, buildings and equipment, allowing the Warwick Fire Department to carry out its mission of fire and rescue activities so essential to the protection of life and property within the district.
In 2010 I was elected to fill out the two remaining years of a commissioner who moved out of the area. During that time, I, along with my fellow commissioners, have guided the district through the purchase of two major assets, a new fire engine and a new 3500 gallon water tanker, both succeeding units that were due for replacement.
During my time as a chief and a commissioner I also helped guide the department and district through the difficult process of upgrading its radio communications system to meet the demanding standards of the modern emergency services.
Over the next five years, in addition to the day-to-day business of the district, the Board of Commissioners’ agenda will include the construction of a new station 3 on South Street to replace the aging and limited facility currently in use.
Also on the agenda will be the purchase of two new apparatus, a ladder truck and a rescue truck, replacing older vehicles that will have reached the end of their service life.
These are major taxpayer expenditures that I feel knowledgeable about and I would very much like to lend that knowledge to the many decision-making processes ahead. I am seeking your support so that I might be re-elected to a five-year term as a member of the Warwick Fire District Board of Commissioners.
Anyone residing in the Warwick Fire District and registered to vote may cast his or her ballot in this election.
Please come out to vote for me, Bill DiMartini, on Tuesday, Dec. 11, between 3 and 9 p.m. at Warwick Station One, 25 Church Street Extension off Forester Avenue.
I have the experience and the ability to serve you.
Bill DiMartini
