Be well

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know about something wonderful that happened this summer in Warwick.
Sanfordville PTA, ShopRite and FAS Training teamed up again to continue a summer program, Fit Kids Club, that teaches elementary students the importance of good nutrition and fitness.
Fit Kids Club met twice a week from June through August at Sanfordville Elementary School. Jessica Altland, the newly hired dietician at ShopRite, along with some wonderful volunteers from ShopRite, led the kids in fun games and lessons on the food groups and making healthy food choices.
JP Van Alstyne of Warwick’s FAS Training, a personal training and workout facility on Route 94, led the students in a rigorous but fun exercise class every Thursday.
The kids earned charms for their water bottles for healthy habits that they followed at home. Some of the healthy habits included getting 60 minutes of exercise every day, trying a new vegetable, making something healthy with someone that they love and being a good friend.
The kids were also introduced to Kai Chi Do by Warwick’s very own Eric Lehrer of Vastu Health on Main Street and also enjoyed a hike on the Appalachian Trail in nearby Vernon, N.J.
Steve Pack, a personal trainer and a Sanfordville dad with a heart for health, volunteered his time to help organize and run the program.
SES PTA was also able to enlist some help from some generous high school students: Bridget Scheinert, Ava Lillian and Morgan Welling.
Great things happen when PTA volunteers, local businesses and high school students team together to make a difference in the health of children.
Thanks to their dedication, some Warwick children grew a little wiser and a little healthier this summer.
