American Legion in Greewood Lake to dedicate monument to honor Lance Cpl. Scott Lynch

October 6, 2010, began as any normal fall day in the close-knit village of Greenwood Lake; however, it did not end that way. Lance Cpl. Scott A. Lynch, a United States Marine and lifetime resident of Greenwood Lake, was killed in action in Afghanistan while defending his country and our freedom.

Scott left behind his wife Tanya, his parents Tammy and Jim and his brothers Jerry and Jimmy along with countless relatives and friends. We all realized that day that "Freedom Isn't Free."

As a community, we welcomed Lance Cpl. Scott A. Lynch home, paid our respects and laid him to rest with full military honors.

On Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2014, we will once again honor Lance Cpl. Scott Lynch at the unveiling and dedication of a monument at the American Legion Arthur Finnegan Post #1443 in Greenwood Lake.

We will be hosting a barbecue fund raiser on Saturday, May 3, beginning at 1 p.m. The cost is $15 per person (children under 10 years old are free. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, beer, wine and soda along with raffles and prizes.

The proceeds from the fund raiser will be used toward the purchase of the monument. We are hoping that your organization can make a donation to the American Legion to support this fund raiser. If you have any questions, you may call the American Legion at 845-477-2193.

Also, mark your calendar for Monday, May 26, at noon and join us at the Arthur Finnegan Post No. 1443, 40 Mountain Lakes Lane, Greenwood Lake, for what will be a memorable tribute to the legacy of Lance Cpl. Scott A. Lynch.
