All New Yorkers should object to way gun law was passed
To the Editor:
In the Jan. 18 edition of The Chronicle you printed an article on the New York Safe Act and how local reps voted on it.
I would like to commend all of our elected officials that had the common sense to realize that this law was poorly written, pushed the personal agenda of a man with higher political aspirations and is willing to sacrifice the freedoms of the state's population to achieve that goal and will do nothing to curb illegal gun violence or activity.
I would like to further point out that no matter what side of the debate you are on all New Yorkers should be raising their voices against the way this law was written and enacted. No public discussion, no political debate, no input from law enforcement other than the governor's personal state army? Disgraceful!
Since the law was passed many New York representatives have voiced opposition to the law and how it was passed, and if you are to believe what is being written even many of the state's sheriffs have said that they do not agree with the law and may not enforce it. I would like to hear what our own Sheriff Dubois' opinion on the matter is.
In closing i believe this issue is no longer just about "gun control" but Cuomo has moved it into the area of questionable and immoral tactics using his position to gain what he feels is best for his political career and not for the people of New York.
Where will it stop?
